Appalachian State and Charlotte Set to Clash in 2025 Duke's Mayo Classic

The 2025 Duke's Mayo Classic will spotlight the Appalachian State Mountaineers and the Charlotte 49ers in a much-anticipated football battle on Friday, August 29, at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium.

Charlotte City Council Addresses Small Business Challenges and Animal Welfare Initiatives

The Charlotte City Council gathered on August 25, 2025, to address urgent concerns impacting local residents, spotlighting the hardships of small businesses and the city’s efforts in animal welfare.

 

My Story Cafe, a beloved business in the French Quarters, exemplified these struggles, with its owner sharing worries over rising rents and ongoing safety issues.

 

Despite announcing a groundbreaking expansion to the Spectrum Center, she stressed the need for community support, as small businesses often cannot compete with large corporations’ financial resources.

 

The council further discussed ways to bolster the small business sector, acknowledging reports that call for more resources and support to offset mounting operational challenges.

 

Animal welfare also featured prominently, with Mahendra Raththor proposing new microcenters throughout Charlotte to aid rescued animals and engage volunteers, especially children and seniors.

 

The council committed to exploring solutions that balance growth with compassionate, community-driven initiatives.
